Nutrition plans

It is important to make the transition from a fully meat-based diet to a partially plant-based diet for dogs slowly and gradually, to prevent any digestive problems. Our schedule is only an indication of what is possible. Advice when switching to a (partially) plant-based diet is to consult a nutrition specialist beforehand.

Here is a suggested feeding schedule to help with this transition:

Weeks 1-2:

75% meat diet (e.g. fresh meat, canned food or kibble)
25% plant-based diet (e.g. plant-based protein sources such as beans, lentils, quinoa)

Weeks 3-4:

50% meat diet
50% plant-based diet

Weeks 5-6:

25% meat diet
75% plant-based diet

From week 7:

Possibly switch to a fully vegan diet, with a balanced mix of plant-based dog food, vegetables, grains and possibly
some animal protein if needed.

Here are some additional tips and advice to ensure your
dog gets all the nutrients he needs:

  1. Make sure the plant-based diet you feed your dog is suitable for dogs, as they have specific dietary needs that are different to those of humans. HenArt’s plant-based dog food PLANTZ® in Cans and Tetra Paks are formulated by nutritionists for dogs and contain all your dog’s daily nutritional needs.
  2. When preparing homemade meals for your dog, make sure to include a balanced mix of plant-based protein sources, vegetables, grains and possibly animal proteins to ensure your dog gets all the essential nutrients.
  3. Monitor your dog’s weight and overall health during the transition phase and after your dog has fully transitioned to the partially vegan diet. Contact your veterinarian if you have any concerns about your dog’s health or if you have any questions about nutrition.
  4. By following these tips and regularly checking your dog’s health, you can ensure that your dog gets a healthy and balanced diet, even with a partially or completely plant-based diet.
